Do you have space in your home and want an animal friend? We can help you find a loyal companion from your region.
Adopting an animal - here's how!
Step 1: Decision for an animal roommate
The decision to adopt an animal should be well thought out in advance: Do all members of the household support this decision? Is the landlord/landlady in agreement? Have you considered all the costs involved in acquiring and keeping an animal?
Step 2: Learn about the needs of the desired animal
How well do you know your pet’s needs? Not only dogs need regular exercise, rabbits and guinea pigs also need enough space and must not be kept alone.
Step 3: Search for a suitable furry friend
Find out where animal shelters are located in your region and get in touch.
Step 4: Getting to know each other on site
Make an appointment and discuss with the shelter staff before your first visit how to handle your pet for the first time and what to consider.
Step 5: Preliminary inspection by shelter staff
Most animal shelters want to ensure that the animal finds a suitable and appropriate new home. Therefore they will set up an appointment with you and visit you at home.
Step 6: Buying initial equipment for your new pet
Find out what you need before your new pet moves in with you. You can find more information here or get advice in your local Maxi Zoo store.
Step 7: Your furry friend moves in
The big day finally arrives: pick up your furry friend from the shelter. Make sure that your pet has time and peace to settle into its new home during the first days. Once your animal roommate has settled in, you can of course also invite visitors.
